A store may not run any temporary discounts or special offers on the prices of goods displayed to the public except with a license from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and broadcasting such discount ads without that license, or in a way that misleads the consumer or contradicts the truth, is prohibited (art. 13).
It is also prohibited to advertise, display, or promote goods or services by any means containing false information, and to advertise any spoiled goods; goods are deemed adulterated or spoiled if they fail to match the standard specifications, are unfit for use, or have expired (art. 22).
Generally, goods and services may not be advertised except after obtaining a license from the competent administrative authorities (art. 25).
If an advertiser violates these rules, the penalty is imprisonment up to six months and a fine up to five thousand dinars, or one of them; the advertiser is exempt from punishment if it is not the supplier and the information was technical in a way it could not reasonably verify (art. 30).
