When purchasing goods or services on an installment plan in Kuwait, Article 18 of the Consumer Protection Law (Law No. 39 of 2014) requires the supplier or service provider to give you specific information before you sign any contract. This includes details about the entity offering the installment plan, the total price, the installment amounts and schedule, any applicable interest or fees, and the terms of the agreement.
This transparency requirement exists to protect you from hidden charges or unclear terms. The supplier must present all of this in a clear, written format so you can make an informed decision before committing. Any clause in the contract that attempts to strip away your consumer rights is automatically void under Article 11.
Additionally, Article 20 confirms that the supplier is liable to compensate you for any actual damages you suffer as a result of a breach of their obligations — including in an installment sale context. If you feel a supplier has not disclosed required information or has included unfair terms in an installment contract, you can file a complaint with the National Consumer Protection Committee at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
